CentOS 8.0.1905 build status

Hi,

As everybody is probably aware now, RHEL 8.0 was released earlier this
week .

Instead of publishing multiple blog posts here and then point to updated
content, we decided this time to have a dedicated wiki page that can be
used to track our current status : <a href="https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8" title="https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8">https://wiki.centos.org/About/Building_8</a>

So now you can look at that page while we're busy on those tasks, and
refresh from time to time.

Let's spread the news about the wiki page and point people (on
mailing-lists, irc, forums, etc) to that page to get all latest news
about CentOS 8.0.1905 build status !

Cheers !

Hi Fabian,

If you are also building for armv7, you'll probably hit this issue:

<a href="https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1639485" title="https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1639485">https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1639485</a>

So have a look at

<a href="https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1154614" title="https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1154614">https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1154614</a>

The patch that is applied there is also working on the binutils from RHEL8.

With regards to SIGs, is there any plan about when we'll have CentOS8
buildroots ready and if there will be any impact on how we can build
packages for it?

Nothing discussed so far, but ideally we'd have the real 8.0.1905 tree
ready/validated before it can used for SIGs.
Also, the other interesting question is about : Do SIGs want to also be
able to build their pkgs like before, or as "modules" ?

All-in-all, that would require an update to koji behind
<a href="https://cbs.centos.org" title="https://cbs.centos.org">https://cbs.centos.org</a> anyway, so happy to discuss that with all SIGs in
the dedicated CBS infra meeting
(<a href="https://www.centos.org/community/calendar/#Community_Buildsystem_&amp;_Infrastructure_Meeting" title="https://www.centos.org/community/calendar/#Community_Buildsystem_&amp;_Infrastructure_Meeting">https://www.centos.org/community/calendar/#Community_Buildsystem_&amp;_Infra...</a>)
, happening monday ?

Excellent. Thank you! Just a quick note about cloud generic images. Is
there a plan for that? We use the raw images from
<a href="https://cloud.centos.org/centos/7/images/" title="https://cloud.centos.org/centos/7/images/">https://cloud.centos.org/centos/7/images/</a> as the basis for generating
images for AWS, GCP and Azure.

Happy to lend a hand.

once the base distro is done, we will look at the cloud images as well,
at this point focus should be on getting the distro in place.

Thanks, Fabian!  Great page, and nice explanations.  Looking forward to
seeing CentOS 8 when it's ready, and not before!
