Did anybody do a dovecot update on centos 5.x?

Hi,

dose anybody did a dovecot update from the original 1.0.7 to e.g. 1.1 or
1.2 from atrpms repository?

We dont have any special settings; Each user one mbox mailbox. About 500
imap/pop3 accounts, 400GB data.

Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

looking for sssd basics and simple config with existing ldap centos 6.3

Hi,

I'm planing to setup a new samba fileserver as a member to an existing
samba 3.x SMB.

The old server is still nss-pam-ldapd configured (historic left overs).

As I dont have any pressure to have the new server up and running within
the next few hours, I liked to set up sssd with our existing openldap.

After googling and reading some documentations from redhat/fedora I
think I do have a basic clue on how it should work.

But at the end I'm not getting it up and running the way I expected.

My question:

"rpm -ql sssd" shows a config in /etc/sssd/sssd.conf, but this file dose
not exist on

what might cause iSCSI connection 1:0 error ISCSI_ERR_CONN_FAILED

Hi,

I do have a centos 6.x server which accessed two different iscsistorages
for a long time without any trouble.

The storage-connection is done by a separate NIC and VLAN.

disk device lvm iscsi questions ....

Hi,

I have an iscsistorage which I attached to a new centos 6.3 server. I
added logic volumes as usual, the block devices (sdb & sdc) showed up in
dmesg; I can mount and access the stored files.

Now we did an firmware software update to that storage (while
unmounted/detached from the fileserver) and after reboot of the storage
and reatache the iscsi nodes I do get new devices.

migrating from Centos 5.8 -> 6.3 LDAP Client Config

Hi,

I run a Centos 5.8 samba server which uses a separate LDAP centos 6.3
server for user and group authentication.

Now we migrate to a new centos 6.3 samba server and I'd like to know how
do 'ldapify' that new server the best way.

I'm a bit confused if I can use the same nss setup like on the current
old server or how and what to configure to go with SSSD?

May be someone can point me to a good how to or has some hints/suggetions?

Thanks and best regards . Götz

suggestion for filesystem or general performance optimization

Hi,

recently I noticed, that we have some performance issues regarding our
central samba fileserver. Red Hat EL 5.8, samba3x-3.5.10-0.109.

Doing a rsync, scp or accessing a share from a client and copy large
files (e.g. 3 GB ISO), I do get a read / write average about 60 to 90
MB/sec. So LAN and general hardware can work at max. lan speed.

But copying or syncing small files, e.g. user profiles etc.

proftp drives me crazy ....

Hi,

I installed proftpd from Centos repository to my Centos 6.3 server.

Iptables and selinux are off; I do have one unix user which can ssh and
login to the server.

I do use the default config and cant login to the ftp server (home
directory of that user is all I want) :/

I use filezilla and Mac OS X native ftp access, both fails with
incorrect login (530)

WTF can be wrong? Or what may I have to change?

Thanks for any hints and suggestions! Regards . Götz

Debugging/optimizing LAN/Fileserver Performance

Hi,

I do have one fileserver, which is compared to other systems slow when
transferring file through the lan.

The test I did get a transfer speed of about 70 - 80 MB/s.

iscsi storage, LACP or Multipathing | Migration or rebuild?

Hi,

I do have one iscsi storage with 4 GBit nics of which currently only one
is configured with an ip and which is in productive use by one cent os
6.3 server.

Doing some research brought me to the idea to use some nic bonding or
multipathing for that storage, but multipathing I did about four or five
years ago only once :)

Furthormore I can't find the ultimate answer (may be there is not such)
what will be better for us:

bonding or multipathing.

The storage is used for backup; it's connected to an backupserver which
pulls data from different servers ...

bonding and ifcfg config

Hi,

I'd like to bond two existing interfaces and checked the RH EL 6.3 [1] doc.

Comparing the current settings of e.g. eth0 to the example config in the
docs I wonder what options I still have to use/copy and which I can drop.

e.g. what should happen to my RH 6.3 eth0 settings not in the docs?

DNS1="............"
GATEWAY="........."
HWADDR=".........."
NM_CONTROLLED="..."
TYPE="............"
UUID="............"

Thanks for any suggestion and best regards .

Changing the bin log format on existing servers

Hi,

we run a master/slave mysql 5.1.61 Red Hat EL 6.3 setup - two servers.

Both use the default binlog format.

Today I'm asked to change the bin log format to 'ROW' because a
special Application needs that format.

4 GBit nic bonding new centos 6.3 system with cisco VSS switches - suggestions?

Hi,

I install a new 4 Port GBit Server with centos 6.3 and I'd like to use
nic bonding.

Searching for a good how to pinted to this page:

<a href="http://www.how2centos.com/centos-6-channel-bonding/" title="http://www.how2centos.com/centos-6-channel-bonding/">http://www.how2centos.com/centos-6-channel-bonding/</a>

My question: Is this the current, good way to bond the 4 ports?

The other question: What should I set on the cisco switch for the
Port-channel options?

As far as I understand for performance and redundancy I will use LACP
and balance-alb.

The switches are 6500 VSS so they should act as "one physical device" as
required by LACP.

thanks for any suggestion and comments . Götz

How to handel smtp to public servers

Hi,

we do have some subnetworks for private computers, which are allowed to
use there public smtp servers like msn, web.de or whatever with the
users private accounts.

All our own computers have to send mail trough our mailserver with user
authentication.

From time to time we are faced with the fact, that a virus infected
private notebook sends spam and we are told by our ISP to take care :)

What might be a good choice to allow clients to send unrestricted
transparent mails (= use smtp(s)) but we can monitor? E.g.

DNS and Reverse Adresses

Hi,

I do have a domain and a couple of different ip networks.

E.g. domainname.de and 172.17.0.0/16 and 192.168.200.0/24

In our old dns files I only have a reverse master zone for the
172.17.-lans, but also 192.168.200.x addresses in the forward zone config.

My question: dose maybe someone forgot the 192.168.200.x reverse zone
files and config and can I just create a file like that for the 172.17
hosts and adding the config for the reverse zone to my named.conf?

Any suggestions are welcome. Regards.

Redundant DHCP server with mixed static nonstatic ips

Hi,

it's time to start our redundant dhcp server setup and I found some
suggestions and tutorials.

But all setups I found use either static or nonstatic ip adress management.

For the static setup I'd setup two servers and copy the configfile from
the 'master' to the secondary server and do a dhcpd restart.

For the nonstatic I have to setup pool and failover peer configurations
to have the lease information synced.

My question:

Can I mix both types of configuration? May be somewone has an example
config for me?

bind slave sync takes long

Hi,

I do have two DNS servers running bind 9.7.3. One master, one slave.

If I add/update a record on the master, it takes up to more or less 20
hours until that change is transferred to the slave.

That is a long time for me :-) May be I got some settings wrong which
would sync much faster ... ?

What could be wrong? What might I check?

Thanks for any suggestion and hint!

yum update fails / problem

Hi,

may be someone has an idea what's broken on one of our RH EL 6.1 server.
I tried all suggestions from the centosforum

dovecot upgrade 1.0.7 -> 2.0.14 / CentOS EL 5.7

Hi,

did anybody did an update from 1.x -> 2.x yet?

I'D like to use the rpm from <a href="http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot/" title="http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot/">http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot/</a>

read failed after messages of non existing harddisks

Hi,

some time ago I removed some physical disks from a server and now I'm
still getting dmesg messages like:

sd 0:2:2:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00040001
end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 0

And all lvm tools still grumbel about that disks too:

/dev/sdb: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler
/dev/sdb: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 1746969493504:
Eingabe-/Ausgabefehler

How may I tell the lvm and the system, that it is ok that this disk do
not exist any more?

Thnaks for hints and suggestion . Götz

You suggestion for 'big' filesystem management Best Practice?

Hi,

we plan to set up a big file storage for media files like uncompressed
movies from student film projects, dvd images etc.

It should be some sort of archive and will not bee accessed by more than
may be 5 people at the same time.

The iSCSI RAID we have is about 26TB netto and I'm again faced with the
question: How many partitions, which filesystem, which mount options etc.

For the User it would be the most simpel thing, to have one big
filesystem she/he could fill with all the data and dont has to search
e.g.

Best practice migrating mysql 4.1.x -> 5.0.x with mixed innodb myisam tables

Hey,

happy new year and I do have a question what might be the best way to
migrate some different databases to a new central server.

The question came up as I wanted to put our web CMS database on our
newer master/slave mysql installation.

We run red hat el 4 and 5 right now, so the source db is mysql 4.1.22
and the target is 5.0.77.

I did a mysqldump (--create-options --default-character-set=utf8 -K -e
--opt -q) on the source server and imported that dump on the new system,
but all innodb tabels are converted to myisam.

In the last time I focused on other topics than mysql, so may be

sendmail / logwatch relaying issue - driving me crazy

Hallo, *<:-)

may be I'm to tired to see the solution, maybe someone can give me a hint?

I do have a couple of servers, sending the daily logwatch report to a
central support email account.

Some servers do have DNS A and CNAME records. On my mailserver relaying
for the servers is allowed.

Only one server drives me crazy, getting user unknown or releaying
denied messages.

Any idea, how to debug this issue? I'd be glad to fix this as a
christmas gift. I could provide logmessages of course.

Thanks and best regards

Any chance to get a working, current openldap srpm/rpm for centos 5.5

Hello,

is there anyone out there, who has a current 2.4.23 srpm or good how to
compile it from src with supported db4?

I tried to compile recent source files, but always finding the current
(installed) db4 >4.3 fails.

Than I tried to compile the LTB Project Files:
<a href="http://ltb-project.org/wiki/documentation/openldap-rpm" title="http://ltb-project.org/wiki/documentation/openldap-rpm">http://ltb-project.org/wiki/documentation/openldap-rpm</a>

May be it is just a small step or option to be set.

Would be nice to get it working :-)

Update for mailman 2.1.11 -> 2.1.14? Centos 5.5

Hey,

recently I was asked, how mailman handles bounces and after digging
around I also noticed that the current version is 2.1.14 with a lot of
bug fixes.

So I'd like to ask if there is a (src)rpm out there with the recent
version working on centos 5.5.

system shutdown - turning off quotas takes a long time

Hi,

recently I had to instal a new raid storage system for our central
fileserver. It is connected by iscsi (1Gbit) and the fielsystems mounted
are 400GB and 1TB and ext3. curretly about 400 GB are used by 1.5 Mio files.

I turned quota on and did a quota check.

BUT on reboot the system crashes/hangs during 'turning off quotas'

This message shows up about 30++ sec after the shutdown ...

Any idea? Hint? Suggestion?

The storage is an SUN 7110 with SAS drives. The Server Centos 5.5. fresh
install, recent updates.

Thanks and best regards.

manage (iscsi storage) LVM

Hi,

it is possible to create and setup/format volumes on a iscsi storage on
one server and than disconnect and attache the storage to an other server.

AFAIK on the 'new' server I do have to launch an LVM-scan command ...
after login to the iscsi target.

But which LVM-command and syntax was it?

Thanks for any hint! :)

DHCP failover ... Some questions.

Hi,

I plan to reorganise our IP management and I'd like to implement a slave
DHCP server. Right now we assign IP addresses based on the
ethernetadress of a client 1:1.

The tutorial here [1] is simple and looks like the thing I need.

I do have a lot of subnetworks and my cisco router has an DHCP helper
address set.
