js-1.8.5 updated

Hi,

I've updated the js package with a fix for the 48-bit VA change [1]
from Jeremy Linton. Lack of the fix broke some other builds during
the mass rebuild that were running for example "xsltproc | elinks" for
generating their docs (eg. pam [2]). So the new js builds are done for
Rawhide and F-26 as js-1.8.5-27.fc27 and js-1.8.5-27.fc26, an update is
filled in bodhi [3] and buildroot override is set [4].

nodejs-* packages not honouring %nodejs_arches

Hi,

there seems to be a small number of nodejs-* packages that use a
hard-coded ExclusiveArch value instead of the %nodejs_arches macro or
they weren't rebuilt during the mass-rebuild.

multi-CPU optimization inside a distribution

Hi all,

we were talking about this item for some time, so let's start a thread
for it to have the discussion and hopefully also a solution documented.
This is meant as discussion initiation based on the situation in
Fedora on POWER. I would like to ask the bigger experts than me to fill
the missing details and options.

Currently we set a minimal CPU level for an architecture (or use the
toolchain default) on the distribution level
(/usr/lib/rpm/redhat/rpmpc owned by redhat-rpm-config [1]).

broken deps for gdal in F-22 and F-23 due new armadillo

Hi,

seems there was a new build of armadillo in the last days that broke
at least gdal in F-22 and F-23

from <a href="http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=13135380" title="http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=13135380">http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=13135380</a>

I see armadillo-6.500.5-1.fc22 in f22-override, so my question whether
the issue is being fixed.

Fedora 20 for IBM System z 64bit official release

Hello everyone,

The Fedora 20 GA release for the IBM System z is here. This time again
a few weeks later than the primary release mainly because of me being
on vacation (again :-)) during the December holidays. The difference to
primary Fedora is this time a bit larger than it was in Fedora 19 for
various reasons. For example some packages now exclude non-x86
architectures even when they built just fine for earlier Fedora
releases.

Fedora 19 for IBM System z 64bit official release

Hello everyone,

Fedora 19 GA release for the IBM System z is here. This time two weeks
later than the primary mainly because me being on vacation. It's hard
for me to take time off work when there are always some deadlines in
sight :-) And again we are closer to primary when we count the number
of available packages.

Worth noting also here is that Anaconda, the Fedora installation
program, has been extensively redesigned since Fedora 17.

Hi all,

due to lack of time I will orphaning all my packages. Most of them I
haven't used for a while anyway.

Fedora 18 for IBM System z 64bit official release

Hello everyone,

Fedora 18 GA release for the IBM System z is here. This time only one
week (8 days to be correct) later than the primary and again more closer
to primary when we count the number of available packages.

Worth noting also here is that Anaconda, the Fedora installation
program, has been extensively redesigned since Fedora 17.

beware too large static library archives

Hi all,

we have recently discovered on Fedora/s390x that webkitgtk3 produces a
very large static library (> 4GB) during build (some tests are linked
with it) and it fails later with "malformed archive" error [1]. Nick
Clifton told me there is a 4GB limit for the size of the archive so
other large C++ projects and other arches can be also affected, so
beware. See bug 835957 [2] for more details.

Fedora 17 for IBM System z 64bit official release

There was a little inconsistency between the Fedora and Everything
repositories requiring a last minute respin, but the Fedora 17 GA
release for the IBM System z is finally here.

Fedora 16 for IBM System z 64bit official release

There was still a longer delay after the Fedora 16 release for the
primary architectures than we would like to see, but at least we are
faster than with Fedora 15 and so here we are.

Fedora 15 for IBM System z 64bit official release

It's been a longer time since the Fedora 15 release for the primary
architectures than we expected, but here we are.

update sg3_utils to 1.31

Hello,

I have updated sg3_utils in rawhide to 1.31. The API/ABI of the
libsgutils2 library is not considered stable and there is no soname
change, so all consumers of the library need to be rebuild. Affected
packages are

podsleuth (FTBFS due missing hal-devel)
libgpod
lsvpd (will be built only in ppc koji)
sdparm
udisks

libgpod, sdparm and udisks were successfully rebuilt in koji.

when I'm building Code::Block in rawhide I'm getting into troubles with

rebuild of wxGTK without the internal crash handler in Rawhide

Hello,

I will rebuild wxGTK without the internal crash handler for the the
devel/F14 branch so we can use ABRT to report crashes from wxGTK-based
apps. This will mean a rebuild of wxGTK with --disable-catch_segvs and
this change affects all applications linked with wxGTK, because one
symbol is removed from the "base" library. I will take care of
rebuilding the packages in the next days, but the package owners should
still check what is their implementation of the
wxApp::OnFatalExpection() virtual method doing, because it will not be
called anymore.

update sg3_utils to 1.29

Hello,

I will update sg3_utils in rawhide to 1.29 that comes with an API/ABI
change in the libsgutils2 library. The API/ABI is not considered stable
and there is no soname change, so all consumers of the library need to
be rebuild. Affected packages are

podsleuth
libgpod
lsvpd
udisks

I had not problems when building them in mock and I will take care of
the rebuilds in Koji.

i386-class support changed in F-13?

Hello,

I was trying to install i686 variant of F-13 to an Alix board (2D13 with
Geode LX) and got into troubles. The kernel boots fine, but when it
should start initramfs the kernel panics. Everything works well when
using complete F-12 environment and when using F-12 kernel+initramfs
with F-13 rootfs the initramfs stuff runs well, but when I try to
manually chroot into the F-13 from the dracut shell I get an "Invalid
instruction" exception.

Fedora packages for upcoming wxWidgets 3.0 available

Hello,

wxWidgets developers are hard working on the upcoming major version 3.0.
To make life of Fedora users and maintainers easier I started building
recent snapshots and pre-releases as Fedora-compatible RPM packages. The
libraries are installable in parallel with the regular 2.8.x, devel
sub-package will replace the one from 2.8.x. Downloads for Fedora 12 and
Rawhide are available at <a href="http://fedora.danny.cz/danny-wx/" title="http://fedora.danny.cz/danny-wx/">http://fedora.danny.cz/danny-wx/</a>

disabling internal crash handler in wxGTK

Hello,

I plan to disable the internal crash handler in wxGTK for the the
devel/F13 branch so we can use ABRT to report crashes. This will mean a
rebuild of wxGTK with --disable-catch_segvs. This change affects all
applications linked with wxGTK, because one symbol is removed from the
"base" library. I will take care of rebuilding the packages, but the
package owners should still check what is their implementation of the
wxApp::OnFatalExpection() virtual method doing, because it will not be
called anymore. Usually it is used to display the wxGTK-based crash
report.

what features are required in Fedora kernel

Hi all,

I am building kernels for some ARM based devices that use Fedora/ARM as
user-land. These devices are usually very limited in the size of kernel
that can be stored in their flash memories (like 2MB kernel, 4MB
ramdisk). So I would like to know what kernel features make a "Fedora
kernel", what are the MUST HAVE features?

Now I have those on my list
- audit
- SELinux
- IPv6
- Netfilter for both IPv4 and IPv6
but there are others for sure. Heavily modular kernel is about 1.65 MB
now.

Thanks

creating minimal boot image for network installations

I don't know about a simple way to start a network installation of
Fedora from USB stick. Creating of boot.img, that server that purpose,
was stopped by rel-engs some releases ago. I have found a blog post [1]
that makes possible to transform a boot.iso image into a bootable USB
stick. But it still requires to download the 200+ MB large boot.iso file
and do it by hand, while in theory only initrd.img and vmlinuz files
should be needed and the whole process could be automated. So I have
created mkbootimg.sh script [2] that automates all required steps and
has a bootable disk image as a result.

access to a ppc64 machine for bigloo's upstream

Hi,

is here anybody that could give access to a ppc64 machine to bigloo's

are willing to debug/fix it, but need a ppc64 machine.

s390x Status (Was Re: Secondary Architecture Status?)

David Woodhouse píše v Ne 10. 05. 2009 v 00:20 +0100:

Short info about s390x status
- it was restarted earlier this year with the goal to have F-11 release
- still building F-11 packages - 5620 successful builds (--latest), ~360
ExcludeArchs, ~750 failures with the Java stack being the main hurdle
- we have some issues with capacity of the network connection to the
koji hub and it also limits our progress
- only a bunch of packages exist now on the koji hub, but we should
start doing composes soon(TM)

gcc more strict about prototypes?

Hi all,

I have found that multiple package successfully rebuild during the
mass-rebuild cannot be rebuild now because they contain a function
called getline() and its prototype conflicts with getline() from
stdio.h. getline() is only one example, other functions are also
affected (fexecve in star).

nautilus depends on a lot of stuff via gvfs

Hi,

I was trying to remove samba-winbind (plus the rest of samba, because I
don't need it and samba represents MBs of updates and tens of MB of used
space) from my F-10 machine and found out that it will remove nautilus
too.

Removing:
samba-winbind i386 3.2.5-0.23.fc10 installed 7.9 M
Removing for dependencies:
gnome-vfs2-smb i386 2.24.0-3.fc10 installed 28 k
gvfs-smb i386 1.0.2-3.fc10 installed 255 k

Server SIG - work areas

Hello,

it has been some time when the Server SIG was announced. And one goal
has been already almost accomplished - to start discussion about the
needs of the server community. For "Server" specific issues I have
opened our own mailing list - subscribe at
<a href="https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/fedora-server-list" title="https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/fedora-server-list">https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/fedora-server-list</a>

One question raised during the discussions was "what is a server" and
the answer can be simple. The server is a combination of bootloader,
kernel and "the server", where "the server" can be a file server, web
server, database server, application server, etc.
