coreutils /bin file dependencies

While playing with Base Runtime container base images we noticed
that some packages couldn't be installed with coreutils-single
due to their /bin file dependencies. Unlike the original
coreutils package, coreutils-single doesn't provide the
pre-UsrMove paths.

Now there are at least two ways to resolve this.

The default buildroot no longer contains python/python3

Let it be known that due to certain packaging changes implemented
in December, neither python nor python3 are automatically pulled
into the default, minimal buildroot anymore.

This negatively affects packages the require python/python3 at
build time but do not explicitly say so, causing FTBFS issues.
This will manifest itself during the upcoming mass rebuild,
at the latest.
<a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/26/Schedule" title="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/26/Schedule">https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/26/Schedule</a>

If your package is affected, make sure you declare your build
dependencies correctly and add anything that's missing.

Base Runtime prototype build and numerous FTBFS issues

Hi!

during the Tuesday's Modularity WG meeting I was talking about the status
of the Base Runtime prototype build and the package build failures we
encountered during our latest attempt. The meeting log is here:

<a href="https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/teams/modularity_wg/modularity_wg.2016-11-29-15.00.log.html" title="https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/teams/modularity_wg/modularity_wg.2016-11-29-15.00.log.html">https://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/teams/modularity_wg/modularity_wg.2016...</a>

In short: To bootstrap the Modularity infra (yeah, it's still not done)
we took a (fairly large) set of packages directly from Fedora 25 RC3
and put them all in one, self-hosting module, currently misleadingly
labeled as base-runtime.

Announcing base runtime

Now that our Modularity infrastructure is in a good enough shape
to build RPM-based modules, it's about time we start creating
some modular content.

For organizational purposes, we decided to create a separate
Modularity group that would focus on defining a base set of
modules that other, mostly application-style/level modules
could build and depend on. This set would include modules
responsible for booting the system, providing administration
and configuration facilities and tools, and possibly also
various language runtimes.

Module build proposal

Hi all,

as promised on the last Modularity WG meeting [0], here's
a module build proposal we've been pondering for a while.

As always, this is nowhere near final and there are still many
open questions. The purpose of this mail is to get some early
feedback.

Module metadata proposal

Good news, everyone,

the first draft of the module metadata format is now available
for you to comment on. We've decided to go with YAML so it
should be fairly readable. You can view the latest version here:

<a href="https://pagure.io/fm-metadata/blob/master/f/metadata.yaml" title="https://pagure.io/fm-metadata/blob/master/f/metadata.yaml">https://pagure.io/fm-metadata/blob/master/f/metadata.yaml</a>

What is is:
The file defines basic properties of the module such as its
name, version, description, licenses, references to upstream
documentation or its content.

Orphaning most of my packages

Hi,

I'm orphaning most of my packages. Feel free to take any you like.
Some are really simple and low-maintanance.

perl-Text-SimpleTable license correction

FYI, perl-Text-SimpleTable's license was corrected from `the
same as Perl' to `Artistic 2.0'.

P

perl-Test-Memory-Cycle license change

FYI, perl-Test-Memory-Cycle's license was changed from `the
same as Perl' to `Artistic 2.0' in 1.06. Coming to a Rawhide
near you.

P

perl-Net-DNS-SEC license correction

This package's license tag was wrong all along; the license
tag will be corrected to `MIT'. Updates are on the way.

P

perl-Net-Netmask license change

FYI,

The Net::Netmask perl module's license changed from `Copyright only'
to the common `Perl-style' license, i.e. `GPL+ or Artistic' in 1.9016.

P

perl license correction

For your information, following a recent re-review, I've just
corrected license tags of perl and some of its subpackages.

The code is the same; this is just an RPM metadata change.

In detail:
* perl
- HSRL added
- TTWL added (f20-f22 only)
- the tag now states "(GPL+ or Artistic) and (GPLv2+ or
Artistic) and Copyright Only and HSRL and MIT and Public
Domain and UCD" in rawhide and "(GPL+ or Artistic) and
(GPLv2+ or Artistic) and Copyright Only and HSRL and
MIT and TTWL and UCD" in f20-f22
* perl-CGI
- Artistic 2.0 added
- the tag now states "(GPL+ or Artistic) and Artistic 2

perl-Test-Simple: License tag correction

As discovered during a package review, the correct license
for this package is actually `(GPL+ or Artistic) and CC0 and
Public Domain' for Fedora 22+, and `(GPL+ or Artistic) and
Public Domain' for older releases.

The package has been updated.

P

Heads-up: perl-BSD-Resource license change

All BSD::Resource users,

Please note that according to upstream, the license of this
package isn't actually 'same as Perl' (GPL+ or Artistic) but
rather 'LGPLv2 or Artistic 2.0'.

Regards,
Petr

st license change

Please note that with the 0.4 update (landing in rawhide and
f19 now), st has switched from BSD to MIT license. [1]

Heads up: nc replaced by nmap ncat

Dear list,

The old Fedora, heavily patched OpenBSD nc package was just
obsoleted by the nmap ncat implementation, available as the
nmap-ncat subpackage. Those are mostly compatible and this
change shouldn't cause much headache but please check your
netcat dependant scripts or apps.

Related bug: #226187

Thanks to Michal Hlavinka for this.

Heads-up: fcoe-utils 1.0.22

To all whom it may concern:

I updated fcoe-utils 1.0.22 in Rawhide yesterday. This version
includes the default interfaces naming scheme change in fipvlan
tool, removing the old '-fcoe' suffix.

The old behavior could be restored by using the new -f/--suffix
options.

-P

dvtm 0.7 license change

List,

Please note the dvtm license has changed in 0.7 from MIT/LGPLv2 to MIT/ISC.

Heads up: cpuspeed removed from f16+

To avoid some confusion:

I removed cpuspeed from Rawhide about 10 days ago. It no longer serves any
purpose in Fedora and has been effectively replaced by kernel cpufreq stack.

All cpufreq modules should now be built-in, with ondemand being the default
governor in Fedora.

In case you would to use a different governor and/or specific frequency, try the
new cpupower.service (provieded by cpupowerutils). Most people shouldn't need
this, though.
