Fedora Objective: Fedora Modularization — The Release

I wanted to share with you that the Fedora Council has approved[0] the
latest installment of the Modularity Objective during today's meeting. The
new Objective is "Fedora Modularization — The Release[1]" and the first
"implementation vehicle" is captured in the F28 Addon Modularity Change[2].

As you may have heard, we tried to release the F27 Server Edition as a
"Modular Distribution" but we ran in to some pretty severe problems. As a
result, we have rethought the approach to be even less invasive and allow
for a simpler, phased approach to adoption.

Guidelines & Process

The Modularity WG has proposed a set of guidelines[1] and a process[2] for
adding modules to Fedora and we would love your feedback. Our general docs
are on Pagure[3] if you need more background/further information.

Please share your feedback here or directly on the wiki page(s).

Announcing Boltron!

As you may have seen on Fedora Magazine[1], the Modularity and Server
Working Groups are very excited to announce the availability of the
Boltron Preview Release[2]!

I highly recommend you read the post[1], but you can also jump to
getting the container, found in the Fedora Registry:

docker run --rm -it

Please do check out the Getting Started[3] page and the Known Issues[4]
before you get too far. We also built some feedback mechanisms, one is a
Walkthrough[5] and one is more General Feedback[6].

Fedora Modules & Fedora 27 Server Edition (Changes)

As the modularity work starts to enter Fedora with the Fedora 27
release, a typical Change Proposal did not seem to do justice on
capturing the moving parts and dependencies for the work to successfully
land. As a result, this document attempts to capture, at a high level,
the goals and deliverables for F27. We are also providing links to the
details to most aspects. Some of the details are still in progress and
will change over the F26 lifecycle (e.g.

Badge design

Hi all,
We would like the modularity team members to vote on their preference for
the Modularity Activity Badge(s) as proposed in this ticket:
.

Please send me a note with your preference (probably don't need to spam the
list) using a link to the comment on which your preference is attached.
Would like to resolve this in the Modularity WG meeting tomorrow so voting
closes at 15h UTC Sept 13, 2016.

thanks! And, thanks especially to the design/badges team for their

The Modularity Working Group meeting has moved time and locations. You
can now find us on Tuesdays at 15h UTC in #fedora-meeting-3[1].

Life of a Module

We have created a proposed infrastructure[1] for the module pipeline.
The new pipeline includes modifications to existing tooling as well as
creating new components. The new pipeline should also support the
traditional pipeline of RPM packages as well.

Modularity WG meeting canceled

Apologies for the late notice, but I, and a number of others, can't make
the meeting slot today. As a result, I feel it is of better value to
cancel the meeting rather than waste people's time.

See you next week,

Modularity WG Mtg and Update (Apr. 15. 2016)

Modularity WG Meeting & Objective Status Update (Apr 12, 2016)

We had another Modularity Working group meeting last Thursday (Apr. 7)

Meeting summary

Please see below for the log/minutes of the first Modularity WG meeting.
Please note, not terribly awesome at zodbot, so, forgot to #info or
whatever that we would table the "what to do and by when" discussion
until after the "how to do stuff" discussion.

Launching Modularity WG & Getting to Work

We have 11 nominations[1], more than the typical 7, for the voting
members of the Modularity WG already and I have a few full-time
developers who have been starting to do some work on modularity. As we
have a number of people expressing early interest, I would like to get
the WG moving now. We can keep the nominations open until April 18th,
but maybe we can start moving forward even before then.

I would like to hold the first meeting with the nominees and any other
interested participants on Mar. 31 15h/3pm UTC in #fedora-meeting.

Modularity Objective Status Update (March 11, 2016)

Recently, I have been able to dedicate substantially more of my time to
the modularity objective. Red Hat is also dedicating other people to
moving the objective forward. Both I and the others expect to be able to
continue to dedicate time for the foreseeable future. As a result, I
wanted to send out this update about what we have done over the past
couple weeks and seek feedback.

Meeting time question

Looking at fedocal vs the wiki page, I am not sure when the Base Meeting
time & day is (or if there are multiple). Could someone please update
fedocal if it is incorrect?
