Orphaned taglib

I've orphaned "taglib" in response to the hostilities found in the
FESCo meeting log. Most likely Rex Dieter will pick it up, but I want
to let the list know as there are other dependencies on it.

Heads up! Broken deps in Upgrade from 12 to 13

Just for kicks, the current

Upgrade from 12+updates to 13+updates+testing

broken deps look like below.

Nautilus crashed by Sound Preferences, F12

Since http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/nautilus lists too many bugs,
does anyone know whether the following is tracked in bugzilla already?

If I open the "Sound Preferences" dialog in the GNOME panel, Nautilus
disappears/exits.

gnome-applet-netspeed (was: Re: Purging the F13 orphans)

I've had a brief look at the open tickets, squashed one duplicate.

At least two show symptoms of memory corruption. They crashed in
g_object_unref with a saved icon reference that isn't modified by the
applet (because it must not be modified except for unref'ing it).

One crash is deep in Pango layout, with no call trace from within the
netspeed applet. With memory corruption somewhere, that backtrace
doesn't tell much else. Unless one is intimately familiar with Pango
and can rule out a problem in Pango. The netspeed applet only calls
a very few layout functions.

Two FAS accounts for the same person - permitted?

About three weeks ago, I've run into multiple package review requests
being marked FE_NEEDSPONSOR by a person who is a sponsored already
with a different email address [at Red Hat]:

http://bugzilla.redhat.com/554234#c6

Sometimes FE_NEEDSPONSOR is set by mistake, because submitters
misunderstand the purpose of that extra tracking and think packages
need a sponsor. I've removed the tracking links from the review tickets
and have asked for clarification.

According to yesterday's reply, the person really wants to create a second
account.

Our static Libraries packaging guidelines once more

How much do we adhere to our Packaging Guidelines for static libraries?

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Guidelines#Packaging_Static_Lib...

What had started with a few Yum queries for corner-cases (see
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-packaging/2009-December/msg00012.... )
has continued with another remote repository checking script:

ABRT considered painful

What's wrong with ABRT?

Originally, with stock F-12, I had received a couple of good backtraces in
bugzilla. Incredibly useful. A wonderful improvement over F-11 and older.

And later? - Recently, in all the backtraces dozens of debuginfo packages
are missing. :-(

Electric Fence - still reliable?

Fedora 12 with LD_PRELOAD=libefence.so.0.0 EF_ALLOW_MALLOC_0=1, what is
more likely that these are false positives or real bugs?

pinfo grub issues? (was: Re: F10 rpm of grub2 completely broken)

Why are you overly brief when you could be a bit more verbose? Which
platform? Which terminal/console? Which package release of pinfo?

Compared with "info grub" (or other info readers you might find), does
it look unusual/not normal or like some personal configuration problem
(e.g. due to choice of terminal colours)? In case it looks like a bug,
http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/pinfo
if the distribution is still alive and hasn't reached EOL yet.

"pinfo grub" here works fine on F13 development.

libmpcdec vs. Musepack SV8

http://www.musepack.net/index.php?pg=src
http://files.musepack.net/source/musepack_src_r435.tar.gz

It seems we only have the old libmpcdec 1.2.6 in Fedora, which can decode
SV7 but not SV8.

Is the new set of libs and tools (from March 2009) hidden somewhere?
Or are there new legal problems?

Tester needed for Audacious

I'm in search for somebody who can give me feedback about whether the
following builds of the audacious-plugins package succeed or fail
at playing Musepack (.mpc) audio files:

Fedora 12: audacious-plugins-2.1-18.fc12
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=141715

Fedora 11: audacious-plugins-1.5.1-18.fc11
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=141710

Fedora 10: audacious-plugins-1.5.1-18.fc10
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=141711

In particular, I'm interested in tests on x86_64, since playback
works fine for me on i686.

Sudden keyboard layout changes

In F-10, F-11 and F-12, with a combination of GNOME, xterm, Emacs,
Firefox, Claws Mail, ...

... all of a sudden my keyboard input layout changes from QWERTZ to QWERTY
(or Germany to USA) and back again some time later. Inside Emacs, for
example, while editing some text. I can open new xterms, and they are
affected, too. A previously opened root xterm is not affected. Or not
always. Can't tell.

Do other people see this, too?
Is anyone aware of existing tickets that perhaps track this?

Dependency problems on upgrade from F-11 to F-12

Results of an extras-repoclosure run for F-11 + Updates to F-12 + Updates and i686:

| source rpm: PolicyKit-olpc-1.2-2.fc11.src.rpm
| package: PolicyKit-olpc-1.2-2.fc11.noarch from fedora-11-i386
| unresolved deps:

| related pkgs:

The new "polkit" package set does not provide this directory anymore.
And nothing replaces/obsoltes PolicyKit-olpc in F-12.

libsndfile status?

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/bugs/libsndfile

What's up with libsndfile in Fedora and EPEL?
There are open tickets about CVEs filed in March.
There are additional tickets without any reply.

gnaughty (was: Re: Who do I send to get a package removed...)

It seems so. What will be the next step? Fedora bookmarks for Firefox,
which point at the same web sites that gnaughty uses and advertises?
More tools like that? A competing tool for a competitor's adult web site?
A comps group for such software packages?

| Description: Application to download automatically adult sex content, i.e.
| : movies and pictures, from a known internet directory.

"Known"? Known by whom? It can't be spelled out like in the README?
All what the tool seems to do is to serve as an advertisement.

Retiring gai, gai-temp, gai-pal

The current thread on "ksensors, id3lib" has reminded me to give
gnome-applet-sensors another try right now. In F11. It works for me
while that hasn't been true before (troubles with acpi thrm or
no sensors).

As a result, I'd like to retire GAI (General Applet Interface Library)
and two of the applets that are in the Fedora Package Collection:

gai-temp
gai-pal
gai

There has not been any new release since 2005. Several patches
have been mailed upstream, but later without any response.

k3b Data DVD writing with GNOME?

Does plain Data DVD file writing+verifying with k3b and GNOME still work
on Fedora 11?

I had "Verify written data" checked:

[...]
Writing successfully completed.

It then ejected the disc and closed the tray again immediately.
The infamous and premature "No medium found" dialog popped up.
I didn't touch it, because it would close after a few seconds
when it would recognise the disc it just had reloaded.

In the background, a Nautilus opened for the recognised disc.
A disc icon appeared, too.
k3b, however, did not proceed to verifying any files.

Triggers just to avoid unowned directories?

The packaging style in the nss-softokn package continues to bug me.

There are RPM triggers being used to install/remove a prelink config file
whenever the prelink package gets installed/removed. According to a comment
in the spec file, it is only done like that because the package doesn't
want to own the /etc/prelink.conf.d directory.

Sylpheed users: does GPG signing work for you?

There's a Fedora 11 bug report

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/519370

which claims that the new GnuPG 2.0.12 and GPGME 1.1.8

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F11/FEDORA-2009-8179

would break the message signing feature within Sylpheed. As I'm still
watching the bugzilla traffic for Sylpheed, I've tried to reproduce it,
but GPG signing still works for me in Sylpheed (and also in Claws Mail,
which uses GPGME, too).

Any Sylpheed users out there who would like to confirm/deny this
breakage?

gwenview - Re: Orphaning packages

Doubtful. How much will that save?

Orphaning xmms-sid

As I'd like to discontinue with packaging the XMMS SID Input plugin
for Fedora, I've dropped ownership, so somebody else may take over.

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/name/xmms-sid

Preferably, somebody who takes this also has some interest in triaging
XMMS bugs, as there have been several unresponded tickets that got lost
when the bug-triaging project closed them WONTFIX.
