Canon LBP 2900 Printer

I could not make Canon LBP-2900 to work on Ubuntu 9.10

I tried driver from:

http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0031118.asp

It gave error "client-error-document-format-not-supported"

On searching Internet, I found:

" ... you have to uncomment something in /etc/cups/mime.convs and
/etc/cups/mime.types.",

but that was uncommented earlier.

Then I found in README file that for Ubuntu I need to run:

sudo aa-complain cupsd

I did. But stiil same error.

Please help me to get it working.

Thanks in advance.

e-signature

Can we implement e-signature using Ubuntu / Linux in a LAN environment? If yes,
any starting point.

Virtual multilingual keyboard

How I can enter UNICODE text in Indian language (Hindi Punjabi)? I
could see some parts of GUI and application in Punjabi. I have "Lohit
Punjabi" font installed and listed in OpenOffice as well as AbiWord.
On typing with Lohit Punjabi font, I still get ENGLISH typed, and not
punjabi. I cannot use special keyboard. I want to use normal keyboard
of laptop, or virtual keyboard. Is there any such keyboard? I tried
gok, but there appear no button to switch language / change keyboard.

Please help.

Dell WiFi card

On newly purchases Dell Vostro 1520, I installed Ubuntu 9.10, and
found WiFi card problem.

"Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)"

On searching Internet, got:

http://jomcode.com/fadhil/?p=59 , I was able to make WiFi to work in first go.

But next day, when I started laptop, it was again not working.

Date changes

http://www.goldentemplephotos.com/datesheet_new.xls has row no 362, 363 when
opened using OpenOffice 3.0.1 (on Ubuntu 9.04) build 9379 shown as:

29/5/2009 EVENING 6TH CE-304 Geotechnical Engg. CIVL A0619 06/01/2009
EVENING 6TH CE-306 Irrigation Engineering-I CIVL A0620

While Google Doc as well MSExcell shows 01/06/2009 for row no. 363 (which is
correct), that mean 1st of June is shown as 6th of Jan. Such error is there
for many rows in same spreadsheet.

Where is problem? With excel spreadsheet or with OpenOffice?

OO problem after upgrade

Ubuntu upgraded to 9.04. Start of OpenOffice give error:

Message: The following Basic script could not be found.
library: 'Dminstall'
module: 'MajAuto'
method: 'TestNewVersionDemarrage'
location: 'application'

It seems related to Dmath. The moment I try to use, update or remove
Dmath, OpenOffice crashes. How to solve this problem?

Difficult to find CAE s/w which run on Ubuntu

What does it take for any Operating System to be declared by a vendor
as supporting Operating System?

When ever I purchase some Hardware or Software I do mention to get
Linux Support, but no one till date was able to deliver or to support
this requirement.

Re: 3D CAD on Ubuntu

http://www.collabcad.com/ , click on Download, Agree to license
agreement, find "New User Register here", on filling form, are you
getting some error?

Convey your problem clearly, or contact <...> at nic dot in or
<...> at collabcad dot com

It is not there. You need to download .tgz file (size 1.7 GB or 229
MB), untar, read documents from website and enjoy.

To untar 1.7GB file you need 5.1 GB free space on HDD.

3D CAD on Ubuntu

The latest release of CollabCAD now works fine on Ubuntu.

QGIS: Segmentation fault

Wired networking

I upgraded Ubuntu from 8.04 LTS to 8.10 on my laptop using campus
through wifi for my laptop Compaq Presario V3000, having Intel Pro /
100 VE LAN card. With 8.04, both LAN and wireless was working fine.
But after upgradation, Network Managet Applet showed dimmed "Wired
network". On right click and edit connection, editing failed with
message: nm-ifupdown-connection.c.82 - connection update not supported
(read only)

What I can do to make LAN working.

Vector rendering

Website http://demo.binyasit.com/mapediting/ says:

"Your browser does not support vector rendering. Currently supported
renderers are: SVG VML"

Using Firefox 3.0.3 on Ubuntu.

May I get any solution.

freeType font: jsMath

I tried to use jsMath, which need installation of additional fonts.
Following page:

http://www.math.union.edu/~dpvc/jsMath/users/fonts.html

has link to:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fonts/unix/enabling_truetype.html
(Last modified March 11, 2002) which is quite old. It is difficult to
believe that firefox is not having support to TruType fonts. I
installed additional font. (Without additional fonts, it fall back on
raster fonts and I was able to proper math equation, but advise was to
have fonts installed to view quickly and non-ugly).
