More on DBusMenu integration for Kopete and KNetworkManager

Hi,

During last Kubuntu meeting, it was decided that a method should be
added to kdelibs so that applications could opt out of DBusMenu if it
was causing trouble, for example because of the use of custom widgets in
their tray menu.

We listed Kopete and KNetworkManager as the two problematic applications.

Well... my team was not enthusiastic at this idea, because they were
afraid it would make DBusMenu optional.

No indicator message in Message Indicator

Hi,

I have been working a bit on the Message Indicator (MI) Plasma applet
lately.

I changed its behavior a bit: the applet is no longer disabled when no
MI-enabled application is running. Instead, clicking on it show a
sliding message explaining what it is. Right now the message looks like
this:

http://imagebin.ca/view/X3oUTG5J.html

What do you think about it? (please point out any typo!)

What I dislike is that it links to the Kubuntu wiki.

Inconsistent behavior of message indicator items

Hi list,

I recently realized the behavior of message indicator items is
inconsistent between GNOME and KDE applications: when clicking on an
application item, GNOME applications unconditionally bring the
application window to the foreground, while KDE applications will
minimize/hide the window if it is already in the foreground.

I think this inconsistency is wrong and would like to modify my patches
so that KDE applications behave like GNOME applications. Do you agree
with this? If so, do you think it can be done for Karmic?

Powerdevil notifications

Hi,

As you probably know (at least if you are using KDE4 on a laptop),
Powerdevil shows a notification when you are running out of power and it
is about to suspend/hibernate/shutdown the computer.

This notification provides an action to cancel the suspend process. This
is the only notification I found within KDE which could cause a real
problem when using Ayatana notifications.

About message indicator and launchers

Hi,

There has been quite some discussion on the Ayatana mailing list about
whether including application launchers in the message indicator applet
was a good idea.

I just discussed this with my manager, who told me that whether the
message indicator plasmoid should include launchers is something the
Kubuntu community should decide.

Yet another Ayatana notifications update

Hi,

I finally implemented configuration for the position of Ayatana
notifications. I defaulted the position to bottom-right, but this can
be changed easily.

The new configuration UI also features preview buttons to help the user
in making an educated choice.

Updated patchset for Ayatana notifications (with Karmic binaries)

Hi,

I updated my patchset implementing Ayatana notifications. I also
uploaded new screenshots and a Karmic binary of the modified systemtray
plasmoid so that you can test easily.

Ayatana-like notifications for Plasma

Hi,

Yesterday I was thinking about the discussion we had at UDS about
Ayatana-like notifications for Plasma. For those who were not there,
the conclusion was that the Kubuntu project was interested in making it
possible for users to try a new approach for notifications. This new
approach was as follows:

- Passive notifications (aka notifications without actions) would appear
in the top-right corner, and would be queued: if three notifications
come at the same time, they would be displayed one after the other to
reduce spamming.

Disabling Plasma progress notifications?

Hi,

I believe Plasma progress notifications should be disabled for Jaunty.

The main problem with them is that they automatically disappear after
some time. Lot of users associate the disappearing of the window with
the completion of the copy. When transferring to/from a pluggable
device, this can easily lead to data loss.

Disabling these notifications is easy: Aaron explained it in this blog
entry:

What do you think about this?
